BAND-wagon

I've jumped on the fancy stitch marker bandwagon, and made a few of my own.

I'm pretty proud of them - it doesn't take much to amuse me, really. After using some of them on the lacy sleeve of the Adrienne V sweater, I noticed that the way I tied off the wire on the beads causes the wire to occassionally catch on the yarn. But I think I figured out a better way to hide the wire end so it doesn't catch.

Here's some sleeve progress (before I started using the new stitch markers):

I'm on the raglan decrease, and I'm hoping this blocks well. Otherwise the lace pattern won't come out, and it won't be long enough. So we'll see. This goes pretty quickly, and the lace pattern helps so I don't get bored with it.

Knit night tonight at my place, and Fall Fiber Festival tomorrow! Much sheepy goodness for this weekend.

Sleeve Island

I'm on sleeve island, but there is an end in sight. I'm about halfway done with the first lace sleeve for the Adrienne V sweater. It goes by pretty quickly! I took out the bell sleeve, because bell sleeves get in the way of my mousing. I'm on the increases for the sleeve, which you're supposed to work into the pattern. Pfah to that idea, says I. I just did M1's on the edges, so on the underside of the arm, I'll have stockinette at the seam and lace all around. I figure no one will see the seam, and if they do and take issue with my slacker method of increasing, THEY can knit the sweater!

I'm close to the raglan decreases, which are pretty easy to do. Then on to sleeve number 2! Except - insert suspenseful music here - I think I might run out of yarn. GASP! Thankfully, knitpicks still stocks the color, and I need a few other balls of other yarn from there anyway. Free shipping here I come!

Fall Fiber Festival is this weekend - Suzanne and I are heading there with our girls - it could be really fun or a big disaster. But there are sheep and yarn, so how bad could it be? There will be pictures for sure, providing I don't forget my camera, as I am wont to do.

Switcheroo

It's been a while! We were on vacation at the beach for a week, during which I finished the pattern I'm hoping to have published in Knitty. I cleaned up the pattern last week, and took pictures today, so it's all sent! Now I just have to wait.

I made it up to the sleeve shaping on the Ribby Shell, and decided I just can't do it anymore. Even though it's still 85 degrees here (which is ridiculous) and I could still wear it, I just-can't-do-it. I don't think it's going to fit, and I'm so tired of knitting on it. So, it's been stuffed back in the crafty closet. Chances are, I'll rip it out and make something for Ainsley out of the yarn instead. It's just not the right yarn for that pattern.

So, I pulled the Adrienne Vittadini sweater out of the crafty closet, and finished the front and the back. Now I'm on sleeve island. Give me some alcohol and a life raft. Although, chances of actually getting OFF the island while alcohol is involved are, I think, slim. But probably lots more fun.

Front or the back, you be the judge:

Close up:

I can't wait to get to wear this sweater, although I'm still a little fuzzy on how to wear it to work, since you can see through the sleeves and the top...

Bulky Yarn Patterns

A while back there was a question about patterns for bulky yarn. Thanks to the new Patternworks catalog, here are some options I'm considering.

From the Fall/Winter 2005 Tahki Yarn Book. This book has a lot of good winter patterns. I'm thinking this will be worked up in Knitpicks Sierra. Click picture for link to pattern.

This could be good for Knitpicks Decadence.

Another sock off the needles and onto my foot. Well, it's for my mom, but whatever.

I like the way this one turned out!

What a Week

The whole world has gone to hell. You all know the story, so go give some freakin' money, you know you have some. And if it's available, don't forget to have your company match it!

LA was OK. I tried to go to the LA SnB, but I was foiled by the sheer number of people in that blasted city. I got all the way into the Farmer's Market and drove around for literally a half hour, before driving right back out. No where to park. Too many people. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH. So I found the nearest Chili's and had some citrus fire chicken and shrimp fajitas.

I did go to Disneyland though, with my aunt and uncle. Here's some pics.

Some knitting was done on the trip, but more ripping. First, I dropped one of my size 3 bamboo needles next to my seat on the airplane, and damned if I was going to stick my hand down there. Plus, the beautiful Lorna's Laces was pooling in a very undesirable way, so rip I did. Again. I cast on instead for a regular old sock, using my trusty size 2 metal DPN's. No pooling, and for added fun, I decided to put two 4x4 cables running down the sides. Me likey.

So there you have it. The good news is, in one week, I'M ON VACATION!!!!!!
